10, 9, 8…… 3, 2, 1, album launch – what a blast!

The Mid North’s album launch last night was a blast. We gave a very energetic and entertaining show to a full house (around 80 people). Jenny Shimmin flew up from Sydney to play banjo and impressed and endeared herself to the town of Bellingen. What a night! John Woolhouse played fiddle and mandolin, Cath Cooper on backing vocals, Will Pregnell on double bass and Bill Faulkner on harmonica and backing vocals. We look forward to playing a show in Sydney soon. We will post some footage and more photos in the coming days. A big thanks to everyone who came along and made the night so special. xo

An unexpected discovery

My family and i have been living in Bellingen for just over 8 months now. In that time we have met some wonderful people. One guy I met, Josh, is a totally good guy, plays music, family man etc. We worked out a week or so ago that we went to school together and we played in our first band together – spooky and awesome. I have a beard and glasses now and he is sporting a Beastie Boys ‘Sabotage’ style moustache. Needless to say, we look very different to when we were 14 years old.

Two days ago he gave me a copy of some music he has been working on, i was blown away. He has managed to write some really catchy hooks and has captured the sound of 1965. Amazing. I asked for the recording sessions and mixed three songs for him. Totally wicked!

‘you were right about the stars’

Hi Folks,

My debut bluegrass/americana album is finished and available for public consumption. Woohoo!

Please visit itunes or www.cdbaby.com/themidnorth

The band name is ‘The Mid North’ and the album is ‘you were right about the stars’

The album features so many great players and performances including Mick Albeck on fiddle (Kasey Chambers, Paul Kelly), Ian Cooper on fiddle (James Morrison), Kat Mear on Fiddle (Big Bug Trio), Jenny Shimmin on banjo (Freaking Amazing), Pete Fidler on dobro (Big Bug Trio, Ross Nickerson on banjo (USA XTrain), Peter McLaughlin on guitar (USA best bluegrass guitarist 1986), Mark Miracle on Mandolin (USA XTrain) and Bob Denoncourt on double bass (USA XTrain).

The album was mostly tracked and entirely mixed in Bellingen. Holy Water was recorded in a motel room at the National Bluegrass Festival in Harrietville in Nov 2011……it sounds super cool.
